“Your funding helped us to buy a new Rise and Recline chair to keep the patients on our ward comfortable.
The specialist chairs, that we provide at each of our patients’ bedsides, allow them maximum comfort in or out of bed. They are fully adjustable from seated to lying flat, and maintain a level of comfort that protects all vulnerable skin pressure areas. They allow patients to sit with their visitors, rather than remain in bed and help to maintain patients’ independence for as long as possible.”
Emma Dixon, Head of Ward Services, St John’s Hospice
“The grant you gave has enabled us to continue our Complementary Therapy Service which provides welcome support to patients with life-limiting illnesses.
We are now able to buy essential resources, products, accessories and other small items needed to deliver personalised complementary therapies to patients, carers, and bereaved individuals. The treatments include reflexology, reiki and massage. The relaxing treatments, self-help strategies and products are tailored for individual needs and to help ease physical, psychological and emotional symptoms.”

“A small, hand held fan is making Margaret’s life in the Dorchester in-patient unit a lot more comfortable.
Like several patients that Weldmar Hospicecare care for, Margaret suffers from breathlessness. This particularly affects her when there are a number of people nearby, as she can feel quite claustrophobic.
Having the fan in her hand means she has a way to ease her breathing should she feel anxious or claustrophobic. It helps give her some independence as she can comfortably use it as and when she needs to.”

“With your donation, we purchased a new, long length Klearside bed for our hospice to replace one of our smaller existing ones.
It has electric profiling so we can adjust them to suit the individual needs of our children and young people. Soft sides and extra padding at both ends make our patients comfortable and safe, especially as the see through sides enable maximum visibility.
The longer bed is perfect for our taller young adults. When I asked 17-year-old Dylan what he thought of our new bed, he gave me a definite thumbs up and a big smile!
Thank you once again to everybody at Hospice Aid UK for your generous funding.”

“There is so much support for your child and the whole family – the services offered are like scaffolding, literally holding up your life so you can keep going. Knowing we have that safety net is just crucial.”

“Thank you for supporting us with your gift towards the purchase of the memory candles. The candles will be sent to bereaved families ahead of their child’s birthday yearly to help them mark this anniversary.
Our bereavement support has increased from reaching just 30% of families in our catchment area in 2022/23, to almost 50% in 2023/24.
Thank you once again for your continued support and help us to make every moment count for babies, children, young people, and their families. “

“St Joseph’s Hospice is delighted to receive a grant in support one of our Ward Sisters to further develop her skill set and improve patient wellbeing. Tracy is completing a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) course and said
“I wanted to do the course as this will benefit the patients in access to medication in a more timely manner. We only have one other NMP and this will greatly improve the care provided for our patients.””

“From making hand and footprints, creating art with the child, taking photographs of special moments and activities, to even getting short video clips to share with families, I love capuring these moments with the children I care for.
A Demelza wooden memory box is offered to families of children at end of life or using the bereavement suite. It includes specially selected ceramic items that can be personalised with hand/footprints in brightly coloured inks.
We offer memory-making in the hospice, at the child’s home, in hospitals and at funeral directors. Memory-making gives families the ability to transport themselves back to being with their child, even if it was the most painful time. We try and make it as special as we can.
It’s being able to touch, it’s tangible. It’s about not forgetting that they are a family, that their child is very much loved and still included in everything the family does.”
